ISYS100 Macq Foodies

By: Adwar, Angeliquee, Cara, Harry and Kezia

This video has been created by the ISYS100 Macq Foodies Group. The video introduced the audience to the five team members (Adwar, Angeliquee, Cara, Harry and Kezia) and shares each member's favourite food. Throughout the video you are also given a tour of our Macquarie University campus food hub, where you see the best places to buy food and explore the variety of cultural cuisines that Macquarie University has to offer its students and staff members. Whilst Adwar and Kezia filmed the various food outlets at Macquarie Uni, Harry, Cara and Angelique helped brainstorm which features to include in our videos and the whole group agreed to included a title frame, ending credits, background music and transitions between each frame. Once we had shot ourselves with the introduction of our favourite food and come up with our features for the video, Kezia edited the video with the rest of the group giving feedback to finalise our video. Finally, Adwar drafted the blog and with the feedback of Kezia, Angeliquee, Harry and Cara the video was embedded onto blogger and the tutor, Mr Wangdra, was tagged with this post on Twitter.

Botanica Garden Cafe

Opening in 2012 just across the road from Waverton train station sits the funky yet relaxing Botanica Garden Café. Built and creatively sitting around giant trees, water features and little garden beds, it emulates a garden paradise with a seemingly random assortment of recycled furniture creating a homely space.

external image botanica-front-umbrellas-combo.jpg

Botanica has a large menu offering both breakfast and lunch (it’s open from 8-4pm Tuesday-Friday and 8-3pm on weekends). If you’re an early riser you can’t look past the Botanica Breaky with both meat and vege options ($17 and $18 respectively). The vegetarian breakfast includes eggs, grilled haloumi, mushrooms, baked beans, spinach and tomato, and personally I think it’s the best offering on the whole menu! Be sure to order a coffee while you're at it.

external image coffee1.jpg

If late wake up calls are more your style the lunch menu also provides amazing food. The Botanica Signature Sandwich is a jam-packed favourite, with char-grilled Scotch fillet, Swiss cheese, beetroot relish, homemade pickles and Dijon aioli served with a basket of homemade fries and slaw ($17).

external image steak-sandwich.jpg

The quaint café also caters exceptionally well for families with kids. There’s a fenced in kids playground located up the back of the café and the coy fish in the small pond next to the kitchen always draw a crowd. There are breakfast and lunch menu options available for the kids ($7.5-$9.50), as well as specializing in babychinos.

So next time you’re on the T1 train line, jump off at Waverton and if nothing else, grab a takeaway coffee!

The Butcher's Block

Located in the quaint Wahroonga Village on Sydney’s North Shore, The Butcher’s Block is open 6am-5pm daily (minus Sunday's) and is the perfect location for your weekend lunch. Getting its name from the fact it used to be a butcher’s shop, you can expect all the meals to have the highest quality meat products, but served at a reasonable price!

external image 67229_594682517325295_1728875239317515903_n.jpg?oh=f47f9b5d953ee8a37c505bd169244141&oe=57D98E8D&__gda__=1474252942_07a01f8b88326c35ae6211bacc139f6a

Taking a browse through the menu you can’t look pass the classic Beef Burger, with a locally sourced wagyu patty and pulled smoked brisket. Or perhaps chicken is more your style, where you can’t go wrong with the peri peri chicken, aioli, mint and coriander pita dish.

external image IMG_1599.jpg?format=1000w

All lunch options include a side of their delicious chips, but I’d recommend ordering a plate of the sweet potato fries. Order along with a serving of their homemade aioli to dip the chips in and you’ll be in heaven!

external image IMG_1520.jpg?format=1000w

So get your gang of friends together and go for lunch at The Butcher’s Block this Saturday! Make sure to grab a pastry from the front counter on your way out as well!

This fancy restaurant is located in the heart of Sydney city within walking distance from Circular Quay station. Neptune Palace serves a wide variety of Malaysian and Chinese cuisine and has won the Asian Restaurant of the Year Award in 1994! One negative aspect is that this restaurant is very pricy, so if you are looking for something cheap this is not the place to go. But if you are willing to pay a bit more than usual for a truly fancy meal then Neptune Palace will without difficulty deliver excellent customer service and quality food to make up for its hefty prices. It was a treat to dine in at Neptune Palace and I will definitely be returning their someday when I save up enough money.

Green Peppercorn

By: Adwar Alkhamesi

Green Peppercorn is a traditional Thai and Laos restaurant that offers a buzzy space with birdcages hanging from the ceiling, yes the ceiling! This is by far my favourite Thai restaurant in Sydney and its outstanding performance easily reflects this persona. This restaurant is highly recommended for family, friends or partners to go out and have a bite, especially during dinner time. Green Peppercorn is well known for its spicy food and the customers have the option of selecting the spiciness level of their food, which has delighted its customers for many years. The prices for the food are average, costing only $12.90 for a beef, chicken or pork chilli basil & garlic dish. There are two Green Peppercorn restaurants, one located in Fairfield and the other in Sydney city.

Reference: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=green+peppercorn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjZ-ubKzb3MAhVDGqYKHQd1A5AQ_AUICCgC&biw=1280&bih=657#tbm=isch&q=green+peppercorn+chilli+basil+and+garlic+&imgrc=1LO2ImDKLbou4M%3A

The worst two thing about my experience at Green Peppercorn was the limited parking and when I visited the restaurant it had reached capacity and so my esteemed colleagues and I had to wait 20 minutes before we could get a table. Parking is located on a side street near Fairfield train station which is the reason why it was difficult to find parking.

Reference: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=green+peppercorn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjZ-ubKzb3MAhVDGqYKHQd1A5AQ_AUICCgC&biw=1280&bih=657#tbm=isch&q=green+peppercorn+restaurant+fairfield&imgrc=2E2X3OSDKKuCuM%3A

Fortunately, the wait was definitely worth it and we received not only quality customer service but were also blown away by the warm vibe inside the restaurant. The layout and design had a very welcoming ambiance which made us relaxed and I found myself eagerly smiling before I began ordering my food. It took about 15 minutes for the food to arrive which was slightly late, but the freshness and the quality of the food definitely made up for the delay. Looking forward to my next meal at Green Peppercorn.

Pelican Pavilion

By Kezia Brooks

Just one timber step up from the sand of Collaroy beach The Pelican Pavilion feels like a natural extension of its coastal surroundings. I am in love with the beach, and to have my favourite breakfast right on the sand defines my perfect start to the day.

The amazingly scrumptious dishes such as 'Breakfast Bruschetta' made with toasted sourdough, feta, vine ripened tomatoes, avocado + poached egg, 'The Full Collaroy' consists of crispy bacon, poached eggs, mushroom, hash browns, organic sausages, cumin roasted tomatoes + toasted sourdough as well as the amazing 'Açai Bowl' with blended Brazillian berries, granola, fresh strawberries, goji berries + sliced banana. YUM!

The food is very reasonably priced from $5 for organic sourdough toast to $25 for the 'Full Collaroy', I love everything on the menu and go away from every meal there satisfied and wanting to bring more friends along every other time.

Using only the best fresh produce, the Northern Beaches most popular dishes are served up daily for breakfast and lunch, whilst delicious smoothies and juices can be whizzed up to meet your every desire!

The café is open every day in the Spring and Summer months, however during Autumn and Winter the cafe is only open from Fridays to Sundays at 8:00am-3:00pm.

Get on down there for a beach and breakfast treat this weekend, for a perfect and organic Northern Beaches experience!

Bondi Wholefoods

Located a few streets away from Australia’s most famous beach is what should be considered one of Australia’s most famous cafes, Bondi Wholefoods. Serving up completely organic, nutritious and untainted food to the locals and tourists, the small café (which doubles as an organic grocery store) aims to promote health and longevity for all its customers.

external image 11011277_871375432939952_4329639350599045390_n.jpg?oh=703a5f188bb78af31ce5b74be1ba5cbe&oe=57A88079

The menu is extremely inclusive of all types of diets. It outlines if meals are gluten free, dairy free, paleo friendly, if a meal has added sugar or not and if meals can be made vegan or not. A personal favourite from the breakfast menu is the vegan Acai Antiox Breakfast Bowl ($15.90) that includes cinnamon almond granola and seasonal fresh fruits.

external image 11903825_890220311055464_7194596616569762101_n.jpg?oh=66430a2555404757e2db963b9febe295&oe=57AE38EF

A popular option on the Wholefoods menu is the numerous amounts of super smoothies sold. Customers have the opportunity to build their own smoothie, starting at $10.90, with all including chia seeds, coconut oil, and rice syrup and protein powder. Customers can choose their flavour, type of milk and an optional protein powder and for an extra boost (and for an extra $2), they can add a superfood in (such as maca powder or a raw energy supplement).

Definitely worth a visit when you’ve just completed the Bondi to Bronte coastal walk.
