El Jannah

By Adwar Alkhamesi

One of Adwar’s favourite restaurant’s is El Jannah. It literally means ‘Heaven’ in Arabic and its quality, excellent customer service and convenient location undoubtedly reflects that image. It was established in 1998 and is located in the heart of Granville, within walking distance from Granville train station. There is also a second location at Punchbowl, which is more convenient for residents closer to that area.

The staff are extremely quick and the food is always fresh at any time of day, regardless of whether the restaurant is packed or not. The charcoal chicken is without doubt one of the juiciest and most succulent dish that a customer could ask for and its garlic sauce is to die for. The price for the food is pretty average compared to others. Takeaway is fairly cheap (a whole chicken cut in ¼ with 2 small garlic sauces is only $11.90!). Dinning is more expensive, but are given quality service and served with pickles, garlic sauce and bread. They also have vegetarian food to cater for all customers. A classic vegetarian dish is the falafel, which is only $6.50.

The only issue with this restaurant, unfortunately, is that they do not accept cards, so cash is a must if you head down to try it out. Nevertheless, there are ATM’s nearby and I promise you will not regret trying out this restaurant. Its unique garlic sauce is one of its highlights. Indeed, critics have ranked El Jannah the 54th best place to eat in Australia. For a local business, with only 2 stores this is well above average.
